Radcliffe Breaks Record in Women's 5K Road Race - 2003-09-14

British runner Paula Radcliffe broke the women's world five-kilometer road record Sunday, beating the mark set by American Deena Drossin last year by three seconds.

Radcliffe won the Flora Light women's challenge in London's Hyde Park, in a time 14 minutes and 51 seconds. Radcliffe also holds the world records in the women's 10-kilometers and marathon.

The British runner led virtually all the way to beat Ethiopia's Olympic 10,000 meter champion Derartu Tulu by three seconds. Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan was third.

Radcliffe missed the athletics world championships in Paris last month because of a shin injury and illness.
