China's Song Yi scored seven times to help lead his nation to an 8-0 win over Bangladesh while Malaysia struggled to a 2-1 win over Hong Kong at the Asia Cup men's field hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia's slim margin of victory eliminated the host nation from any chance of making the semifinals after defending champion South Korea defeated Japan, 6-0.
Pakistan, India, South Korea, and Japan have all qualified for the final four.
Meanwhile, Song Yi scored all but one of his team's goals in the Chinese win over Bangladesh. Song fired the ball into the Bangladeshi goal in the fourth, 13th, 19th, 22nd, 41st, 45th and 69th minutes. Yu Haiao scored the other goal in the 17th minute.
Elsewhere in group-B, Pakistan defeated arch rival India, 4-2 thanks in part to two goals from Khasif Jawad. The win gives Pakistan the top place in Group-B.
The Asia Cup runs through Sunday. The winner gets an automatic berth to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
