College Football: Auburn Defeats Tennessee 28-21 - 2003-10-05


In U.S. college football, the unranked Auburn Tigers have upset the number seven Tennessee Volunteers 28-21.

Auburn running back Carnell Williams ran for 185 yards on 36 carries, and quarterback Jason Campbell threw two touchdown passes late Saturday to lead the host Tigers.

Earlier, the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners dominated Iowa State 53-7. Oklahoma quarterback Jason White threw five touchdown passes in the lopsided road victory over the Cyclones. Oklahoma has now scored more than 50 points in three straight games.

Other top 10 winners Saturday were fourth-ranked Virginia Tech, number eight Nebraska, and number 10 Southern California.

In the top matchups of the day, number 19 Iowa upset 11th-ranked Michigan 30-27, and number 13 Texas downed number 14 Kansas State 24-20.

Meanwhile, the unranked Navy Midshipmen upset 25th-ranked Air Force, handing the Falcons' their first loss of the season. Navy led Air Force the entire game to win 28-25. The Midshipmen had not beaten Air Force in their last six meetings.
