Kimayo Sets Course Record to Win Frankfurt Marathon

Kenyan runner Boaz Kimayo set a new course record Sunday at the Frankfurt Marathon in Germany, capturing the race in two hours, nine minutes and 28 seconds.

Leonid Shvetsov of Russia finished second, five seconds back, while Kenya's Paul Kiptanui was third (2:11:12).

Kimayo, who said he did not think about the record until the last two kilometers, lowered the three-year-old mark held by fellow Kenyan Henry Cherono by more than a minute.

Germany's Luminita Zaituc won the women's race in two hours, 29 minutes and 41 seconds. Russia's Larissa Malikova was second, while Claudia Oberland of Switzerland was third. The marathon drew over 13,000 runners and an estimated 100,000 spectators.
