Violence in Indian Kashmir Claims 3 Lives - 2003-12-18

Authorities in Indian Kashmir say one Muslim militant and two police officers have been killed in a clash in the town of Rajouri, near the Pakistani border.

Officials said the clash occurred early Thursday, when militants dressed in Indian army uniforms lobbed grenades near the town's police headquarters and then began firing indiscriminately.

Security forces shot and killed one militant and cordoned off the area to search for others involved in the attack.

The site of the attack is considered a high security area, housing top officials of Rajouri district, which is located about 180-kiliometers west of Indian Kashmir's winter capital, Jammu city.
