Nicole Hosp Wins Women's World Cup Giant Slalom Race in Lienz - 2003-12-27


Austrian skier Nicole Hosp has captured a women's World Cup Giant Slalom race in Lienz, Austria, her first giant slalom victory of the season.

Hosp finished with a combined time of 2:6.4:.65 minutes ahead of countrywoman Renate Goetschl. American Kirsten Clark had the best finish of her career, capturing third place .93 second behind Hosp.

Two favorites, Anja Paerson of Sweden and Denise Karbon of Italy, dropped out of the competition in the first run. Paerson missed a gate near the finish line while Karbon crashed midway through the course.

Paerson remains the overall World Cup points lead with 510 points. Hosp is in second place, with 420 points while Goetschl is third with 386 points. Kirsten Clark is in 10th place overall, with 217 points.
