Car Explosion Rocks Saudi Neighborhood - 2003-12-29

update

Authorities in Saudi Arabia say there has been an explosion in a car parked in the capital, Riyadh, but there were no casualties.

It was not clear if the explosion was caused by a bomb.

Saudi television quoted a civil defense official who said there were no injuries and no damage beyond the car that exploded.

The car that exploded had been parked in the al-Salam residential district of Riyadh.

The explosion comes one day after the British government warned its citizens that terrorists may be making final preparations for attacks in the Muslim kingdom. The travel warning issued Sunday included, but was not limited to, residential compounds.

Britain's warning came after a series of deadly terrorist attacks this year in Saudi Arabia. The United States has also warned travelers to avoid Saudi Arabia.

Bombings in May and November killed more than 50 people at housing compounds for foreigners in Saudi Arabia.
