NBA: Hornets, SuperSonics, Lakers, Warriors Among Winners - 2004-01-25


In the National Basketball Association, the New Orleans Hornets hit a three-point shot with one second remaining in regulation to beat the defending champion San Antonio Spurs 98-96.

Darrell Armstrong capped a season-high 35-point night with the game-winning basket, which he scored from nine meters. Armstrong hit seven three-pointers to deflate the host Spurs, who blew an 18-point lead.

Meanwhile, Seattle's Ray Allen netted 41 points to lead the host SuperSonics to a 102-97 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The other Los Angeles team - the Lakers - snapped a nine-game road losing streak by downing the Utah Jazz 93-86. Kobe Bryant returned from missing six games with an injury to score 21 points.

Golden State's Jason Richardson hit seven three-point shots on his way to scoring 31 points to help the Warriors end a 12-game road losing streak, downing the Portland Trail Blazers 105-87.

Washington's Kwame Brown had a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds to lead the Wizards to a 107-96 win over the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Pacers here in the nation's capital.

The Cleveland Cavaliers now have won two of their three games without injured rookie sensation LeBron James, beating the visiting Philadelphia 76ers, 95-87.

The Miami Heat got by the Knicks 85-77 in New York.
