Russia Increases Military Sales to Post-Soviet Record - 2004-01-26

Russia boosted its arms sales to $5.4 billion in 2003, Moscow's largest annual sales since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Russia's biggest arms exporting company, Rosoboronexport, says naval and air defense systems were the best sellers.

China and India are the biggest customers, but Russia says it is dealing with 50 other nations as well.

Earlier this month, Russia agreed to sell an aircraft carrier and some jets to India for $1.5 billion.
