US Women Shut Out Canada in Four Nations Football Tourney - 2004-02-03

The United States shut out Canada 2-0 to win the championship in the Four Nations women's football (soccer) tournament in Shenzhen, China.

By winning, the Americans capture back-to-back championships in the tournament's short three-year history.

The Four Nations tournament is a warm-up for the Olympic qualifiers, which start later this month.

In the fight for second place, host China rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to finally tie Sweden 2-2. Han Duan was the hero for China, scoring the game-tying goal off a corner kick. Sweden is the 2003 Women's World Cup runner-up and finished in third place.

The United States played without star forward Mia Hamm and defender Brandi Chastain, but they should be ready for the Olympic qualifiers, beginning February 25 in Costa Rica.
