Golfer Davies Wins Women's Australian Open - 2004-03-08

English golfer Laura Davies shot a final-round two-under-par 70 to win the rain-delayed Women's Australian Open in Sydney.

Davies finished with a 5-under-par 283 Monday for a six-shot victory over Australian Rachel Teske and her first title in this event. Davies has won the open championships of eight other countries. The leading group was able to complete only 12 holes Sunday after torrential rain suspended play with Davies maintaining a three-stroke lead over Teske. Davies had led or had a share of the lead since the opening round. Teske had a closing 74.

Trish Johnson of England finished third, with a final round 70. Australian star Karrie Webb finished with a final round of 73 and tied for sixth place, 11 shots off the pace.

With the Australian Open win, Laura Davies continues her streak of winning a tournament every year since turning professional in 1985.
