The American administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, has appointed a new Iraqi Interior Minister.
Mr. Bremer said Friday, that Samir Sumaydah, a Sunni Muslim and a politically independent member of the Iraqi Governing Council, has been appointed Interior Minister to replace Nouri Badran -- a Shi'ite Muslim -- who resigned Thursday.
Mr. Bremer also announced that an independent Shi'ite member of the Governing Council, Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, will take up the newly created role of national security advisor.
