New Zealand's Prime Minister Helen Clark says Wellington may withdraw its army engineers from Iraq if unrest in the war-torn country drags on.
Ms. Clark told a New Zealand radio station Tuesday that it would not be useful for the engineers to be in Iraq if they are unable to do their work. The engineers had been confined to their base near the southern city of Basra for security reasons, but the French News Agency reports they returned to work Tuesday.
New Zealand has deployed 61 army engineers to Iraq to assist in reconstruction and humanitarian projects.
