6 Iraqis Killed in Bomb Blast North of Baghdad - 2004-08-11

Iraqi medical officials say at least six people were killed and 10 others wounded Wednesday, in a bomb blast at a popular marketplace in a village north of Baghdad.

And in an attack in a village south of the capital gunmen killed a Shi'ite political leader in a drive-by shooting. Officials say the victim was a senior official of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq SCIRI, which is represented in the interim Iraqi government.

Meanwhile, continued fighting was reported today between U.S. forces and militiamen loyal to radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr in the southern Iraqi city of Najaf and the nearby town of Kut.
