Witnesses say Iraqi gunmen have freed a British journalist kidnapped Thursday night and threatened with death unless U.S. forces pull out of Najaf.
James Brandon's release comes just hours after aides to radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr demanded militants free the Sunday Telegraph correspondent.
Militants handed the reporter over to the cleric's office in the southern city of Basra.
They had abducted Mr. Brandon the night before from a local hotel. Mr. Brandon told reporters after his release that he is okay. He thanked al-Sadr's militia for helping gain his freedom.
