US, Polish Soldiers Attacked in Iraq - 2004-08-21

A Polish soldier has been killed and six others wounded in a car bomb blast Saturday near Hilla, south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

In southern Baghdad, the U.S. military says an American soldier was killed and two others wounded in a grenade attack on their vehicle.

Meanwhile, in southern Iraq, about 30 kilometers from the port of Basra, officials say saboteurs bombed an oil pipeline. The attack caused little damage because Shi'ite militiamen have threatened to attack the site.

And an Islamist website used by militant groups in Iraq, has posted a message threatening to blow up most of the country's oil pipelines at midnight Saturday, Baghdad time, if U.S. troops do not withdraw from the holy city of Najaf.
