Olympic Silver Medalist Arndt Wins Women's Road Race at World Cycling Championships - 2004-10-03


Olympic silver medalist Judith Arndt of Germany has won the women's road race at the world cycling championships in Verona, Italy.

The 28-year-old German finished the 132.75-kilometer race in 3:44:38, with runner-up Italian Tatiana Gudzero 10 seconds back. Norwegian champion Anita Valen won the bronze medal 12 seconds off the pace.

Arndt surged ahead in the final kilometers of the race to take her first world title ahead of several favorites, including Britain's Nicole Cooke and French veteran Jeannie Longo.
