update

American scientists Richard Axel and Linda Buck have won this year's Nobel Prize for medicine, just announced in Stockholm, Sweden.

The winners were honored for their studies of the sense of smell in humans. The two scientists discovered a gene family responsible for the ability to recognize thousands of odors, and remember them throughout life.
