British Prime Minister in Sudan  - 2004-10-06

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, for talks with the country's leaders expected to focus on the crisis in the western Darfur region.

Mr. Blair is scheduled to meet Wednesday with Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir and other senior officials.

Later, Prime Minister Blair will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will attend the second session of his Commission for Africa. Mr. Blair is scheduled to make an important policy speech on Africa during the visit.

Tuesday, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan criticized Sudan's government for making no progress in ending attacks on civilians in Darfur over the past month and doing nothing to prosecute those responsible.
