British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where he is to deliver what aides call a major address to the British-sponsored Commission for Africa on the continent's most pressing problems.
Mr. Blair, who is on a three-day trip to Africa, arrived in Ethiopia late Wednesday from Sudan and met with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
At a joint news conference, the two leaders indicated the meeting of Commission for Africa, which Mr. Blair set up earlier this year, would address issues such as poverty, debt and AIDS. Mr. Blair insisted the body would promote action, not just talk.
The British leader said he wants to make Africa a dominant theme when Britain takes over the presidency of the Group of Eight industrialized nations next year.
