Azerbaijan Opposition Holds Election Protest

More than 200 Azerbaijanis have demonstrated in the town of Nardaran, west of the capital Baku, protesting what they believe was fraud in recent parliamentary elections,

Authorities say the protest ended without incident Wednesday.

Tensions are high in Azerbaijan following the November 6 elections. Monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe say the balloting failed to meet international standards.

Since the voting, Azerbaijan's Central Electoral Commission has annulled results in four districts, citing various violations of election laws. In all four cases authorities had originally declared candidates of President Ilham Aliyev's party as the victor.

Overall results of the vote show the governing party still in control of parliament.
