A bitter cold front has returned to Russia and Ukraine, with dozens of weather-related deaths reported in the past day.
Ukraine's Health Ministry Wednesday said sub-freezing temperatures have claimed 30 lives since Tuesday, bringing the nation's weather-related death toll to 801 since mid-January.
The ministry says about 5,000 people have been hospitalized in the past three weeks.
In neighboring Russia, the Itar-Tass news agency reports the deaths of five people and the hospitalization of another 17 in Moscow since Monday.
Last month, sub-freezing temperatures also claimed lives in Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Poland and the Baltic countries, among others.
