Czech Republic Moves to Second Place in FIFA Rankings

Thanks to their playoff win over Norway last week, the Czech Republic has moved into second place behind Brazil in the latest International Football Federation (FIFA) rankings.

The Czechs moved past the Netherlands while Argentina stayed fourth in the world. France remained fifth while Spain moved up two places to sixth.

Mexico fell one place to seventh while the United States dropped one slot to eighth in the world. England is ninth and is tied with Portugal.

Of the top 20 teams, only Greece, Uruguay, and Denmark did not qualify for the World Cup in Germany. Australia moved into the top-50 (49th place) after beating Uruguay in a playoff series to earn its first berth in the World Cup since 1974.

The next round of rankings will be released December 19.
