Former President Ford Remains in Hospital

Former President Gerald Ford is still undergoing treatment for pneumonia at a hospital near his home in Rancho Mirage, California.

In a statement released Monday, Mr. Ford's chief of staff said he continues to improve, but he is "not quite ready for release."

The 92-year-old former president checked into the hospital January 14. He was expected to be discharged last Thursday, but doctors decided he needed additional treatment.

In 2000, Mr. Ford had a minor stroke at the Republican Convention and was also hospitalized after a dizzy spell on a golf course in 2003.

Mr. Ford was sworn in as president in August, 1974. He completed the term of Richard Nixon, who resigned amid the Watergate scandal, but lost the 1976 election to Jimmy Carter.
