Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev says the United States and Russia should cooperate to further reduce their nuclear weapons stockpiles.
During a press conference at the United Nations Wednesday, Mr. Gorbachev said he believes Russia is ready to cooperate on the matter, but that the United States is not.
He said Washington should not suggest that other nations disarm and make no move to do so itself. Mr. Gorbachev added that he believes the United States suffers from the "sickness of being the victor" in the Cold War and must "cure itself from this disease."
Mr. Gorbachev was at the U.N. to present media mogul and philanthropist Ted Turner with an award for his commitment to global security and nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament.
