American Allyson Felix has won the women's 200 meters gold medal ahead of Olympic champion Veronica Campbell of Jamaica at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
Felix outran Campbell and France's Christine Arron in the final 100 meters to win the race in 22.16 seconds. Rachelle Boone-Smith of the United States was second with Arron third. Boone-Smith and Arron were credited with the same time (22.31).
Meanwhile, the U.S. men's 400-meter relay team failed to qualify for the final when Leonard Scott dropped the baton after receiving it from Mardy Scales. The results means that men's 100 and 200 meters champion Justin Gatlin of the United States has no chance of earning a third gold medal at the championships.
Earlier, Russia's Sergey Kirdyapkin of Russia won the gold medal in the men's 50-kilometer walk in three hours, 38 minutes, eight seconds. Compatriot and training partner Aleksey Voyevodin was second (3:41:25), while Italian Alex Schwazer took the bronze medal.
Later, American veteran Allen Johnson goes for gold in the 110-meter hurdles race. Johnson faces Olympic champion Liu Xiang of China and an all-star field.
