Rock Stars Geldof, Bono Welcome African Aid Plan

Bob Geldof (r) and Bono
Rock musicians Bob Geldof and Bono, who organized last week's "Live 8" concerts and campaigned for a big increase in aid to Africa's poor, say the summit meeting in Scotland was a "qualified triumph."

Geldof and Bono praised the G-8 leaders' decision to double developmental aid to Africa and forgive debts owed by the continent's poorest nations. Bono, leader of the Irish group U2 says the extra money committed to African aid will save the lives of 600,000 malaria victims, and could be "the beginning of the end" of extreme poverty for many Africans.
