Sri Lanka says it is checking a report that Islamic militants in Iraq have abducted a Sri Lankan truck driver.
Thursday, Arabic television network al-Jazeera said it received a video from a group calling itself the Islamic Army in Iraq. The video showed what the militants said were a Sri Lankan and a Bangladeshi truck driver being held hostage.
Al-Jazeera quoted the militants as saying they would try the two hostages according to Islamic law.
Some of the most recent foreigners abducted in Iraq include a Japanese citizen, a Polish woman and the British-Iraqi country director for CARE, an international charity.
