Togo Fires Football Coach

update

Togo has fired national men's football coach Stephen Keshi after the team's poor showing at the recent African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

The Nigerian-born Keshi lost his job Tuesday after his squad failed to advance past the first round of the continent's top football event. Government-run television in Togo said sports authorities were in discussion with two foreign coaches to handle the team's appearance in this year's World Cup in Germany.

Togo is one of five African teams to qualify for the World Cup and one of the four first-timers from the continent. However, two games into the African Cup, Togo was already eliminated. The team lost to Congo and Cameroon, neither of which qualified for the World Cup.
