Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has threatened to expel the U.S. ambassador to Caracas if he continues - as Mr. Chavez put it - "provoking" problems in Venezuela.
Mr. Chavez spoke Sunday on national television. His comments follow an incident Friday in which supporters of President Chavez pelted the American Ambassador's car with vegetables, fruit, rocks and eggs after he was forced to leave a charity event.
Venezuela condemned the incident but suggested the diplomat - William Brownfield - was partially responsible for the incident for failling to advise authorities of his plans.
U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns said in a protest to Venezuelan officials that the incident violated an international convention requiring host countries to ensure the safety of foreign diplomats.
