British police have charged a second suspect in the grisly daylight attack on a soldier who was hacked to death last month on a London street.
London police say 28-year-old Michael Adebolajo was charged Saturday with the May 22 murder of soldier Lee Rigby and the attempted murder of two police officers. He was released from a hospital Friday, after treatment for gunshot wounds inflicted by police who responded to the crime scene. He is set to appear in court Monday.
Adebolajo is one of two British Muslim converts of Nigerian descent shot at the scene of the Rigby killing in southeast London, near a military barracks.
The other suspect, 22-year-old Michael Adebowale, was charged with murder and attempted murder earlier this week after his hospital release.
Both suspects told witnesses at the crime scene they were acting in retaliation against British forces for the killing of Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan. Three other suspects arrested last week are awaiting conspiracy charges.
The Rigby killing has sparked protests and attacks on British mosques, triggering calls for calm from the family of the murdered soldier.
