Two passenger buses filled with riders have collided head on in central Pakistan, killing at least 27 people and injuring scores of others. The death toll is expected to rise.

The accident occurred Monday morning in Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan district, in Punjab province.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Dead road accidents are common in Pakistan, generally due to poor road conditions and reckless driving.
