Canadian-Israeli Woman Joins Fight Against Islamic State


A Canadian-born immigrant to Israel has become the first foreign woman to join Kurds battling the Islamic State group in Syria.

Gill Rosenberg, a 31-year-old resident of Tel Aviv is a former civil aviation pilot who has served in the Israeli military.

Rosenberg told Israel Radio she decided to join the Kurdish militia fighting the Islamic State because, "They are our brothers. They are good people. They love life, a lot like us, really."

She said she trained with the Kurdish militants in Iraq and would soon fight in neighboring Syria.

Rosenberg was jailed in the United States for three years in connection with an international phone scam.
