Officials in Tanzania said Monday the death toll from a collapsed building in Dar es Salaam has climbed to 34. Children were reported to be among the victims.
Authorities say at least 18 people were rescued alive when the 16-story building, in the final stages of construction, came crashing down Friday morning near a playground.
Rescue workers have given up hope of finding any more survivors in the rubble.
Officials say they are investigating the cause of the collapse and have detained at least four people for questioning.
Building collapses are relatively common in some African nations, mainly due to poor building standards.
