European Markets Mixed Wednesday

European markets were mixed Wednesday.

At midday, the FTSE index in Britain was down 0.1%, while Germany’s DAX index fell 0.5%. France’s CAC 40 was up 1.5 points (+0.03%).

Markets in Asia and Australia also ended mixed hours earlier, bringing an end to a multi-day winning streak.

The Nikkei in Japan dropped 0.5%. Seoul’s KOSPI index fell 0.9%. The Sensex in Mumbai was down 0.7%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index gained 1.1%, while the TSEC index in Taipei surged 3.5%. The S&P/ASX in Sydney closed 0.4% lower.

Shanghai’s Composite index remains closed for the Lunar New Year.

In commodities trading, gold was selling at $1,788.10 per ounce, down 0.6% U.S. crude oil was selling at $60.94 per barrel, up 1.4%, and Brent crude was up 1.8%, selling at $64.50 per barrel.

In futures trading, the Dow was trending slightly higher, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were trending negatively ahead of the opening bell on Wall Street.
