A federal court in Houston, Texas, has sentenced an Indian citizen and a Brazilian national to three years in prison for smuggling illegal migrants into the United States.

Kaushik Thakkar and Fabano Amorim were also given two years of supervised release when their prison terms end.

Prosecutors say the two charged Indian citizens up to $60,000 each and conspired to smuggle them into the United States through South and Central America and the Caribbean. Many crossed into Texas.

A third defendant was given a 19-month prison term in February.
