Israeli forces have arrested more than 20 members of the radical Palestinian Hamas faction during raids in the occupied West Bank.

Hamas says the arrests were carried out early Monday throughout the entire territory. It says three of those arrested are members of the Palestinian legislature.

The Israeli army confirmed the raids, but will not say how many Palestinians were arrested.

Hamas defeated the rival Fatah movement in parliamentary elections in 2006 and seized control of the Gaza Strip from Fatah the next year.

Hamas leaders primarily are based in Gaza. But the group has 74 members in the 132-seat Palestinian Authority legislature, which is headquartered in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
