Aerialist Walks on Tightrope Across Gorge Near Grand Canyon
American daredevil Nik Wallenda has successfully walked across a section of gorge near the Grand Canyon on a five-centimeter steel cable.
The self-described "King of the High Wire" finished the amazing stunt more than 450 meters above the Little Colorado River in just under 23 minutes.
Wallenda crossed the Little Colorado River Gorge Sunday without a tether or a safety net as winds whipped around him and caused the cable to sway. He is very open about his strong Christian faith and could be heard praying almost constantly throughout the walk.
Wallenda kissed the ground when he reached the other side as spectators cheered.
The Discovery Channel broadcast the thrilling stunt live around the world.
The 34-year-old Wallenda is a member of the "Flying Wallendas'' family of acrobats, which goes back seven generations. Several of his family members, including his great-grandfather, have died while performing stunts.
Last year, Wallenda made history by becoming the only person to walk on a high wire over the Niagara Falls.
