Iraqi police say a new series of car bombings in and around the capital have killed at least 13 people.
Two of Monday's blasts occurred in the town of Mahmoudiya, about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, killing eight people. Five others were killed by car bombs in the capital's eastern and northern areas.
Separately, police in western Baghdad found the bodies of three men and one woman that officials said had "signs of torture." The victims were reported to have been killed by gunshots to the head.
Also Monday, the Defense Ministry said 57 militants were killed in overnight military operations in western Anbar province. Government forces and allied tribal militias have been battling al-Qaida linked militants there for over a month.
Iraq is experiencing its worst unrest since 2008 when the country was emerging from a period of sectarian warfare between the country's Sunnis and Shi'ites.
The United Nations says nearly 9,000 people died violently in Iraq last year, all but about 1,000 of them civilians.
