The head of a U.S. advocacy group defending the rights of African Americans has resigned her position after her parents said that she is not black, as she has claimed. Rachel Dolezal was elected head of the NAACP chapter in Spokane, Washington about six months ago after years of posing as a black woman. Zlatica Hoke reports that race is not a qualifying criteria for an NAACP leadership position, but the fact that Dolezal has not been open about her racial identity has caused a furor.
