At least eight militants are dead in northwest Pakistan after two suspected U.S. drone strikes Tuesday on Taliban compounds.
In the first attack, officials say a U.S. drone fired three missiles at a home in the Shawal area of the North Waziristan tribal region. At least five militants were killed.
A few hours later, officials say a second drone fired missiles at militants in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.
Officials say a drone strike Monday killed at least five other militants in Shawal, while another five were killed in a strike in the same area on Sunday.
U.S. drone attacks resumed in June after a pause during the first half of the year, while the Pakistani government tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with the Taliban.
Pakistan's military launched a major anti-militant offensive in June in North Waziristan. The remote region bordering Afghanistan has long been a hideout for militants, including the Taliban and al-Qaida.
