The world's oldest known Holocaust survivor has died at age 110 in London.

Alice Herz-Sommer, who originally was from Prague, Czechoslovakia, was confined during World War II in the camp in Terezin, or Theresienstadt.

She was a talented musician and an adept pianist. It was music that saved her. She and others performed concerts that entertained the Nazis.

She and her son Raphael were freed from captivity in 1945 when the Soviet Red Army liberated their camp. They emigrated to Israel before settling in Britain.

Raphael, an accomplished cellist and conductor, died in 2001.

Alice Herz-Sommer is the subject of a 2014 Oscar-nominated documentary about her extraordinary life. The Lady In Number 6: Music Saved My Life, a 38-minute film, is competing for best short documentary at next week's Academy Awards ceremony.
