Major Quake in Nepal

A major earthquake and dozens of powerful aftershocks struck Nepal Saturday, destroying parts of the capital, Kathmandu, and killing more than 1,100 people, while shaking the slopes of Mt. Everest.

The 7.8-magnitude jolt triggered deadly avalanches on Everest, the highest point on Earth, sweeping climbers off the mountain's slopes and burying others in their base camps.
