Snowden Getting a Job in Russia

The lawyer for U.S. intelligence leaker Edward Snowden says he has landed a technical support job at one of the largest Russian Internet websites.

Attorney Anatoly Kucherena said Snowden would start work Friday at an unidentified company, declining to name the employer in their continuing effort to keep the whereabouts of the U.S. fugitive a secret. The 30-year-old Snowden has been living in asylum in Russia after first fleeing the U.S. last June and heading to Hong Kong.

Several months ago, Pavel Durov, the founder of VKontakte, a Russian version of the popular social media site Facebook, publicly offered Snowden a chance to work for him. But he declined comment Thursday on whether he had hired Snowden.

Snowden's disclosures to major British and U.S. newspapers continue to make headlines around the world, including recent stories about the alleged U.S. monitoring of the calls of world leaders and Internet traffic through the Google and Yahoo search engines.

Snowden is being sought by American authorities to stand trial on espionage charges after leaking a massive number of highly classified documents detailing surveillance programs being conducted by the clandestine U.S. National Security Agency.
