Democratic Republic of the Congo
The United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo says at least 35 people were killed in an attack by rebels on a mining hub in the country's southeast.

In a statement it says Mai Mai separatist fighters armed with bows and machetes attacked the town of Lubumbashi, the capital of copper-rich Katanga province Saturday.

The U.N. says at least 35 people were killed in the violence while 54 other were injured, among them rebel fighters.
