US Investigates 2 Deadly Helicopter Crashes

A Pave Hawk helicopter, military personnel and emergency services attend the scene of a helicopter crash on the coast near the village of Cley next the Sea in Norfolk, eastern England, Jan. 8, 2014.
The U.S. military is investigating two deadly helicopter crashes that occurred within a 24-hour period.

The Navy says a helicopter with five people on board went down in the Atlantic off the coast of Virginia Wednesday. Of the four crew members rescued, one died a few hours later. The other three were being evaluated at a hospital.

The search continues for the fifth person in 5 degree Celsius waters. The Navy said the MH-53E Sea Dragon was conducting routine training operations.

In Britain, an investigation is under way in a remote marshland area, after a U.S. Air Force helicopter crashed, killing four airmen late Tuesday.

The Air Force said the Pave Hawk helicopter was on a low-level training mission when it went down more than 200 kilometers northeast of London.
