New York City is celebrating Fleet Week, a weeklong event that celebrates the U.S. maritime services.
A dozen naval vessels made their way up the Hudson River on Wednesday.
Among the ships taking part are the USS Bataan, a U.S. Navy Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, the USCGC Sturgeon Bay, a 140-foot Bay-class cutter primarily used for breaking through ice, four U.S. Naval Academy Yard Patrol Craft and two German Navy ships, the Baden-Württemberg-class frigate and a Berlin-class replenishment ship.
The ships sailed past the Intrepid Museum at Pier 86 in New York Harbor on Wednesday as part of the Parade of Ships.
The event, now in its 36th year, offers the public the chance to meet members of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as opportunities to step aboard and tour the warships, Reuters reported.
Other nations, such as Germany, often send ships as well.
About 2,300 sailors, Marines and members of the Coast Guard are expected to participate in this year's events and offer demonstrations to showcase the latest military technology, Reuters reported.
