The White House has canceled its annual Fourth of July barbecue for military members and their families because of rain in Washington, D.C.

This is the second consecutive year that President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, have had to cancel the picnic and fireworks viewing party because of the weather.

The White House says scheduled performances by singer Janelle Monae and rapper Kendrick Lamar will go on as planned indoors. The president and the first lady will deliver brief remarks to start the evening.

The singers will perform in the White House East Room for military families, as well as supporters and guests of the Obamas.

Meanwhile, the rain in Washington has postponed some D.C.-area fireworks displays, although the National Mall fireworks show is still on schedule.
