Indian officials say they are questioning several people in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in the northern state of Haryana.
Her body was found Sunday.
The French News Agency, AFP, reports amid mounting public pressure a special investigative team has been set up to investigate the child's death and to arrest the people responsible.
The report says the girl's family wants the federal police to investigate their daughter's death because the parents say they do not trust the local police.
Residents of the area have staged a protest march against the local police.
AFP reports the girl's parents have given the police until 11 a.m. Wednesday to make an arrest in the case or the parents threaten to escalate the protest.
