Q&A Williams & Ganguly / India Child Rape / In India, hospital officials say a four-year-old girl who was raped earlier this month has died. Officials in Nagpur say the child died Monday night of cardiac arrest. The incident is the latest in a string of rapes that have sparked outrage in India over the treatment of women and girls, with protests first erupting in December over the savage gang rape of a 23-year-old student in the capital, New Delhi. The kidnap and brutal rape this month of a five-year-old girl in the the capital has spurred another round of demonstrations over the high levels of sexual violence and police handling of the case. Meenakshi Ganguly Gang-oo-lee is the South Asia director of Human Right Watch. The organization issued a report in February on child sex abuse in India. Speaking from Mumbai, Ms. Ganguly tells VOA’s Sarah Williams this latest incident demonstrates the crisis in the country.
